The year 2024 has come and gone, and we are now faced with a brand new year. 2024 was laden with lots of football historics, memorable moments, unforgettable experiences and achievements for many, highs and lows as we all come to expect in the beautiful game of football. And its ushered in a year, 2025 with great expectations. If 2024 could be the way it was, the only way to go is up. 2025 would be even better, we hope.
But wait a moment…..before we leave 2024 completely behind, we want to create one lasting legacy for the year, in African football. We set out to see the personalities that made the news the most in 2024, the persons who shaped 2024 in African football. We are talking about the people who were mentioned, talked about and celebrated the most in the year 2024. It is our very own version of the Forbes’ Top 100 List. But seeing as football is a game of eleven players per team, we are restricting the Elite 2024 List to the top eleven. And we went to town to take votes from Africa’s elite journalists and members of the African football fraternity who all put together a large and expansive list of nominees….over 75 names were put forward in total comprising players, coaches, referees, football journalists, football administrators….there was even a nation’s President in the nominees list.
Our mode of selection is simple. We cast the net far and wide across Africa to members of the African football family. And from the responses we received, the eleven people who got the highest numbers in mention are being named…..AFRICAN FOOTBALL ELITE ELEVEN 2024 The votes for 2024 are closed. But we wonder, who would you have loved to have in the Football Elite Eleven for 2024? And as the new year has started, would you make a note to start making a note of who you would want to see in the Football Elite Eleven 2025? We had many players in the List this year. Please make a note of coaches, referees, administrators and journalists that stand out for you in 2025, as we would like to see more of other practitioners of African football recognised in our Elite Eleven Yearly.
